We have recently added an Auto Abstracts series to the website; these are images I started to compile a while ago of vintage American cars. The series started with a bright blue 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air which I came across while exploring Nova Scotia, Canada, with my wife in 2009. The car was parked in a scenic spot on the South Shore, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and had a ‘for sale’ sign propped against the inside of the windscreen.
The vibrant blue really caught my eye and the colour, coupled with the 1950s style, lends itself to the Pop Art style series which followed.
On my return to the UK, I went on the hunt for more cars to photograph and found some in various colours and states of disrepair, including one extremely rusty Chevy, which allowed me to indulge my love of photographing detail and texture.
As well as bright pops of colour, there are three minimilist studies of tail fins in white including a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz and a gorgeous 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertable.
Other cars in the series include Chevys in bright red and green which you can browse here. Hope you enjoy!
