The Botanic floral series was partly inspired by the art movements of the 1920s and 30s and each image has a contemporary-classic feel, with some of the flowers seeming almost balletic in their formation.

Each photographic study fills the frame, almost to over-flowing, as though the flower is pushing to break free of the confines of the print. Using monochrome, rather than full colour, Paul creates compositions with simpler tones of light and shade; and his careful use of gentle lighting works to draw out the delicate shapes and textures of each subject.

The series allows time to be spent with each flower, drawing the viewer in, to look deep into the small details found within the folds of a petal, or travel along the curve of a stem; to appreciate the detail and character found in every bloom.
