The pomegranate has a long history of symbolism of beauty, life, fertility and abundance and has inspired poets to liken the cutting open of the fruit to lifting the lid of a jewellery box. The deep red seeds inside, tumble and glisten like precious gemstones. The minimalist nature of this image is symbolic in its own right: the pomegranate representing life; the simple surroundings reflecting the calmness we strive for, but all too often fail to achieve.
