Step into a kaleidoscopic floral escape

In this unapologetically uplifting series of limited edition floral art prints, I have selected flowers for Chroma for their exquisite detail, joyful colours and natural symmetry. Many of the flowers were grown by my wife and me in our garden and others at a local flower farm, just a few miles from my studio.

Creating brightly coloured artwork was a bit of a departure for me when I started the Chroma series in 2014, as most of my work before then had been in black and white. I felt the need to work on a series that would allow people to escape from the seriousness of our modern world, even if it is just for a few moments, and enter into a Pop Art-inspired, fun and colourful place.

Since I started the series, the world has become steadily more chaotic, and I think that surrounding ourselves with reminders of the beauty of nature, and artwork that uplifts and energises us, becomes even more important as an antidote to the strange and challenging times we are living through.

Throughout this series (as with all of my work) I have tried to convey the emotional impact I feel when I see something beautiful for the first time. When I see a lovely flower, I notice its perfume, fine texture and the intricacy of its structure. It's a fleeting first impression; an emotion which is a challenge to capture in a photograph; but it’s an important one to convey in a series where the intention is to uplift the viewer and offer a moment of escape.
