New Work: A Series of Minimalist Seascapes

Imagine standing in the middle of a crowded street, tightly surrounded by hundreds of busy, jostling people. All of them are “on a mission”, anxious to get somewhere. Driven to get something done: it must be done in the next minute, as five minutes is too long. Work harder, faster. Get more things done, and yet more things done.

Now stop.

Stand still. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Imagine slowly becoming aware of a gentle sea breeze; the quiet lapping of water against the bow of a boat; the distant call of sea birds; and the warmth of the summer sun falling onto your face. Feel calm. At peace.

Open your eyes and you see the vast blue ocean around you, and the wide expanse of the sky above. And you're standing on the deck of a yacht, gently ploughing through the sea, away from the hustle; the busyness.

There is solace to be found in nature, surrounded by the sea. It brings with it a sense of calm and peace. It encourages us to breathe deeply and to put our lives and worries into perspective. And it encourages us to dream.

In these strange times, when we might feel things are out of our control and we no longer have the freedom we are used to, it felt that the time was right for me to release this small body of work about escaping to a tranquil place. These freedoms will return to us eventually, but this series of seascapes is a reminder to me that we should not take the way we live for granted; that things do change, sometimes abruptly and catastrophically. We are learning that we have to appreciate special moments where we can, and remember them for what they are: moments of joy, in an otherwise chaotic world.

Each print is available in three sizes up to 60 inches on the long side and are intended to be viewed as large as possible, to allow the viewer to step into the epic seascape and feel the sense of freedom and escape in each print.

The limited edition prints are available in the following sizes:

30x15 inch / 76x38 cm Edition of 10
45x23inch / 114x58cm Edition of 10
60x30inch / 152x76cm Edition of 7

I will be adding to this series in the future. In the meantime, allow yourself to be carried away to another place by viewing my series of minimalist seascapes.
